Tips and Tricks to Extend Your Laptop’s Battery Life
Follow these simple tips and tricks to extend your laptops battery life for longer time.
Tip-1: Charge the Battery
Charge the battery does not mean that plugging your laptop 24 hours or till you are working on your laptop. It simply means that charge your laptop battery in Full (12 hours) and unplug it till the last 10% charge. Look for lithium ion (Li-Ion) replacement batteries for the greatest longevity.
Tip-2: Optimize your Power Options
Go to ‘Power Options’ in your windows control panel and set it up so that power usage is optimized (Select the ‘max battery’ for maximum effect).
By this way your laptop will run for a longer time.
Tip-3: Add optimum amount of RAM
You need sufficient RAM to run your program instructions so consider 2GB or more RAM for the best performance.
Correct amount of RAM means less drain of your laptop battery.
Tip-4: Keep the Battery metal Contacts Clean
Clean your battery’s metal contacts with a cloth moistened with rubbing alcohol in every 2 months, to ensure the efficient power transfer between the laptop and battery.
Note: Allow the battery to dry thoroughly before replacing it.
Tip-5: De-fragment the Hard Drives
De-fragment is the in-built utility that re-arranges file fragments. Your laptop will take less time in searching that means less spinning for the hard drive and less use of battery power.
Note: De-fragment your hard drive at least every two months.
Tip-6 Unplug Laptop accessories that You aren’t using
Every accessory drains laptop battery so stop/off every accessory that you are not using.
Turn off WLAN (WiFi) and Bluetooth connections if you are not using. LED of these connections drain your laptop battery.
Don’t ever use bright screen conditions, set your laptop screen to optimum brightness so you can save additional battery life.
Tip-7: Use Hibernate rather than Standby
When you place your laptop in Standby mode, it saves some power and you can instantly resume your laptop but it doesn’t save as much power as hibernate does.
Hibernating a PC will actually save your PC’s state as it is, and completely shut itself down.
Bonus Tip:
As earlier said, Do not charge a battery for long periods of time. Once charged, unplug the charger and leave it till the last 10% discharge. Also, do not let a Li-On battery completely discharge.
I hope above simple tricks will help you to extend your laptop’s battery life.
