When you install a software in your computer, it uses Temp folder to install the software. Sometimes system denies installation due to lack of enough rights to Temp folder. In such cases, we can change the location of Temp folder easily. Temp folder stores temporary internet files, setup files, windows explorer files & history and program files that are of no use.
This step by step guide will help you to change your existing Temp folder location to new a Temp location. This example is given on Win-7 operating system.
How to change Temp Folder Location
Temp folder resides in following location in Win-7 Operating System.
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp
Step-1:
First create a Folder in your D:\ Drive >> D:\TEMP then
Go to START menu >> Choose RUN and type sysdm.cpl to start System Properties.
OR
Right click on My Computer and click on Properties >> Click on Advance System Settings under the left side of panel.
Step-2:
Now click on Advanced Tab under System Properties dialog box >> Click on Environment Variables button.
Step-3:
Double click on User variable named TEMP and change it to a path on your D:\ drive.
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp to D:\Temp
Now double click on User variable named TMP and change it to a path on your D:\ drive.
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp to D:\Temp
Step-4:
Finally click on OK button to change the location of Temp folder permanently.
Step-5:
You need not to restart the PC but if it doesn’t work, you may restart the PC to make the changes permanent.
By this way you can change Temp Folder Location- %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp to new loaction.
